Reds loan out Degen

Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart have confirmed the arrival of Liverpool right-back Philipp Degen on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old Switzerland international moved to Anfield on a free transfer in 2008 from Borussia Dortmund.

He made just seven Premier League appearances in two seasons for Liverpool and the move sees Degen reunited with Stuttgart coach Christian Gross, the pair having worked together at Basel. Degen, who has 31 caps to his name, stated: “For me this loan represents a great chance to rediscover my best form.”

Liverpool 2-0 FK Rabotnicki (agg 4-0)

Joe Cole impressed on his competitive debut as Liverpool booked their spot in the Europa League play-offs draw with a 4-0 aggregate win over Rabotnicki.

Cole’s curling cross after a corner set up David Ngog to nod in before the French striker soon created the second.

Ngog was hauled down by Fernando Lopes and the recalled Steven Gerrard poked home the penalty as half-time loomed.Rabotnicki’s best efforts came late on with Martin Kelly denying Marcio and Filip Petkovski hitting the right post.

Liverpool ponder move for former Arsenal star

Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is on Liverpool’s list of possible replacements for Javier Mascherano. Roy Hodgson has been offered Danish international Christian Poulsen by Juventus.

But the Frenchman has four years of experience in the Premier League before joining Milan on a free transfer in 2008.The 26-year-old has never established himself as a first-team regular at the San Siro. And after playing in the Emirates Cup at the weekend, he admitted: “It is not an easy situation. It is frustrating when you feel good and they don’t give you a chance. I am very happy in Italy but now I hope to play more than last year.”

Match Preview – FK Rabotnicki

Liverpool will contest the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie against FK Rabotnicki at Anfield on Thursday. The Reds hold a 2-0 lead from last week’s meeting in Macedonia thanks to a brace of goals from David Ngog.

Who are Rabotnicki? Rabotnicki are based in Skopje and play at the Philip II Arena. They are managed by a Macedonian called Zoran Stratev.

Since the Republic of Macedonia became an independent country, Rabotnicki have been competing in the Macedonian Premier League, having previously played in the first Federal League of SFR Yugoslavia.

Degen set for Stuttgart switch

Philipp Degen is on his way out of Anfield with German club Stuttgart claiming they have agreed personal terms with the defender.

The Switzerland international was told by manager Roy Hodgson he had no future on Merseyside, leaving him free to find a new club.Stuttgart promptly discussed a return to Germany for the 27-year-old former Borussia Dortmund star and the Bundesliga outfit will now offer the Reds £1.5million to secure his signature.

“We have reached an agreement with the player (Degen),” Stuttgart sporting director Jochen Schneider told German daily Bild.

Twist in Liverpool takeover

Liverpool have witnessed a twist in their takeover saga after the emergance of reports that a consortium of Arab and Canadian businessmen are in advanced discussions with the Premier League club.Kenny Huang was thought to be in pole position to buyout American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks at Anfield, and Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that the Chinese tycoon had made a formal offer.

But now a group containing investors from the Middle East and Canada, fronted by former Syria international Yahya Kirdi, are said to be finalising a purchase price, repayment of debt and financing for Liverpool’s planned new stadium in Stanley Park.

Liverpool poised to step up chase for Poulsen

Liverpool are poised to step up their attempts to land Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.

Though the Reds are awaiting the next move from Inter Milan in their pursuit of Javier Mascherano, they pressing on with plans for life without the Argentinean.

Once Inter strike a deal with Manchester City for the sale of Mario Balotelli, they will be better placed to push through their bid to take Mascherano to the San Siro.

Striker Fernando Torres committed to Liverpool

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres says he is “committed to the club and fans” and is “looking forward to working with new Reds manager Roy Hodgson”.

Torres, 26, had been linked to Chelsea and Manchester City ever since the club failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League.

“I am looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Torres told the club’s website. “My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed.”

Reds in takeover talks

The battle for ownership of Liverpool has returned to the spotlight with reports that the Chinese tycoon Kenny Huang is in negotiations with Royal Bank of Scotland to take control of the club.

Huang, who is partnered by one of the biggest sovereign wealth funds in the Far East, is determined to seize control before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, according to the Times. The current owners, the Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett, took over little more than three years ago but put the club up for sale in April and appointed Martin Broughton, the British Airways chairman, to oversee any deal.

Liverpool to make shock Parker swoop

Liverpool are set to make an £8million bid for Scott Parker.Anfield boss Roy Hodgson has pinpointed the West Ham midfielder as the man to replace Javier Mascherano, who is set to join Inter Milan in a £20m deal.

The Hammers hierarchy have insisted that Parker is the one player they will not sell this summer.

“Not at any price,” said chairman David Sullivan. That has not stopped Tottenham declaring their interest. And just as Liverpool allowed Spurs and Arsenal to make the running in the pursuit of Joe Cole, before stealing their thunder, they are poised to strike again with Parker.

Reds re-sign Aurelio

Liverpool have confirmed they have re-signed Fabio Aurelio after the defender put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the club. The Brazilian appeared to have brought his Reds career to an end after leaving Anfield following the expiry of his contract in May.

However, Aurelio was offered the chance to earn a new deal with the club by boss Roy Hodgson and, after impressing both the technical staff and medical team at Melwood, has agreed a contract until 2012.

Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv: “I asked the club to find out whether Fabio had found a new club.

Reds line up Defour

Roy Hodgson is ready to make highly-rated Belgium star Steven Defour a replacement for Javier Mascherano. The new Liverpool manager was due to watch the Standard Liege midfielder in action last night, as the Belgian League got underway. And even though a late return from Macedonia following the Reds’ Europa League tie with Rabotnicki scuppered those plans, Hodgson still had the much-fancied player watched.

Defour became one of the hottest properties in Europe a year ago, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton, Juventus and Real Madrid all monitoring his progress.

Hodgson eyes move for Konchesky

Liverpool are weighing up a £2.5million swoop for Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky.Reds boss Roy Hodgson has been anxious to bring in experienced cover in that position since Fabio Aurelio’s release and the impending sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina.

Hodgson has explored a number of options, most notably Maynor Figueroa, Wigan Athletic’s Honduran international. However, the pursuit of Figueroa has been complicated by a number of factors – notably the fee it would take to prise him away from the DW Stadium – and the fact that Liverpool’s quota of homegrown players is low.
